This study examines variability in key photosynthetic indicators in two tomato (Solanum
lycopersicum L.) cultivars—Shalala and Khamsa —grown under open-field conditions in the
Absheron region. The research evaluates leaf area dynamics, photosynthetic potential (PP), net
photosynthetic productivity (NPP), specific leaf mass density (SLMD), plastid pigment content, and
biomass accumulation across ontogenetic stages.
The results show that all photosynthetic indicators increased progressively from vegetative
growth to fruiting stages. The cultivar Shalala reached maximum physiological act ivity during early
fruit formation, while the mid-maturing cultivar Khamsa peaked during mass fruiting. Chlorophyll
accumulation followed a tri-phasic pattern in both cultivars.
